The nearly half marathon
I need to scratch the 3 off my medal and replace it with a two as we were only allowed to run 12 miles of the course today. We were told at the start line that the route would be cut short by 1 mile due to flooding on what was a very wet day. It turns out that was a little white lie as the police were dealing with a suspicious vehicle along the route. Very grateful for the police and event organisers for looking out for our safety while avoiding unnecessary alarm. As it turned out the vehicle was of no danger. But it did mean we missed out on running through Cannon Hill Park and around Edgbaston cricket ground which I was so looking forward to. I was well chuffed with my time though, well on the way to smashing my previous time out of the park had we run the full distance.
Afterwards I went out for the best burger I’ve ever tasted and had an absolutely brilliant evening in church with Jake Isaac leading. I wasn’t familiar with Jake’s music but I will be checking it out after tonight. Nobody wanted the gathering to end so on his third encore he dug out an old Pentecostal Sunday School classic- ‘Cast your burdens’. There’s a lot of dancing involved and at one part of the song you have to get down as low as you can. Well I joined in with great gusto but had an embarrassing moment when my legs reminded me about the 12 miles I’d just run and I didn’t think I was ever going to get back up again!
A day to remember.
