(281) Armstrong Bridge

Armstrong Bridge crosses the River Ouseburn and connects the Newcastle suburbs of Heaton and Jesmond.
The bridge is cross braced with adjustable wrought iron ties. It was built at the Elswick works of Sir W.G. Armstrong & Co., its designer. Following the bridge’s opening in 1878, Sir William Armstrong donated it to the people of Newcastle.
In 1963, the bridge was closed to road traffic and pedestrianised.
