Candidates for election
Voting in the local government elections ended at midday today. Because most voting was done by postal ballot, counting was well advanced before the closing of the polls. I went to the Green Party rooms in Eden Terrace to support daughter J while waiting for the count to be announced. As it was I didn't stay right until the results were declared.
J texted later and she had done very well; third in the vote for Ward councillor (only one councillor per ward). Whau ward is a a Labour Party stronghold, and six of their candidates were among the seven elected. J was not, but had done reasonably well in that as well. As a first time candidate she polled very well.
My photo is of the five candidates who were at the rooms at that time. The poster behind shows the Green Party caucus in Parliament
