A Day Trip To Mull
Heavy overnight rain but the morning was cloudy and dry. The rest of the week looks decidedly wet so we headed over to Mull hoping to see some of the famous wildlife.
Driving through spectacular scenery to the small dock at Lochaline we saw (only) a few deer and some rather bedraggled black goats, down on the shore eating seaweed.
The ferry crossing at this point takes only a few minutes and then we were all scanning the skies for eagles flying from the high ridges.
It wasn't until we were driving alongside the loch we saw a Whitetail (Sea Eagle) sitting out on a sand bank. It was quite a long way out but I managed to get a shot of it. Sadly it would have to be far too cropped to post here.
By now we were all thinking of our stomachs and luckily we spotted a sign for a cafe, seemingly in the middle of nowhere.
Following an even smaller road we eventually found The Whitetail Cafe, part of the Tiroran Hotel.
What a find! Homemade sausage rolls to die for !
We were reluctant to leave this little oasis of food and drink and chatted for a while to the hotel chef, who was supposed to be having a day off but had volunteered to cover a shift in the tea room. He told us we were welcome to walk through the grounds, down to the private beach where, if we were lucky, we might see otters.
As you can see from my main blip, indeed we did see an otter. My first ever sighting in the wild.
Again it was a little too distant and this is a crop but I'm really thrilled to have seen it.
