The Green Mountain Bike
This morning I met recently retired Ray relishing his discovery of the Upper Taylor River Track. He is a keen mountain biker and knows most of the network of mountain biking tracks that abound in the Wither Hills Farm Park but had not discovered the full range of tracks that follow both side of the Taylor River from downtown right up to the Taylor Dam. So Ray is looking very happy especially now he has more time to explore the area. It is a mountain bikers paradise around here. The tracks on the Wither Hills are graded from easy right through to heart-in-the-mouth stuff. The views from the Wither Hills tracks are breath-taking. On the other hand the Taylor River tracks are concreted in the downtown region. This means folk in wheelchairs and mobility scooters, baby buggies, skate boarders and the like can enjoy the riverside. Further upstream the tracks are shingle, or clay, sometimes rocky and generally much more of a challenge which (thankfully) restricts their use to dog walkers, runners and mountain bikers. There is plenty of wildlife upstream as well if one knows where to look and one is very quiet and the dogs are well behaved.
