Jings
A post on Twitter led me to a post on Facebook, and there staring me in the face were my 3 (dead) uncles. A bit like a sudden meeting with 3 ghosts.
Forres Mechanics FC are posting some archive stuff on their Facebook page.
For the wider audience, the CanCans play football (soccer) in the Scottish Highland League. That's 4 leagues below the top one. They're more prominent than usual having won the league last season (for the 2nd time in 100+ years of trying) and because they hosted the mighty Glasgow Rangers in a Scottish cup game in the autumn.
The photo is pre-war. Alistair (the middle one) was wounded and taken prisoner at Dunkirk, and lost a leg.
My dad (John) also played for Scottish and British Universities. He had a trial game for Aberdeen in the old Scottish Division 1 (against East Fife, who'd won the Scottish Cup the previous season) and Aberdeen wanted him to sign. That would have meant turning professional and he preferred to continue his career as a lawyer.
