The dropped stitch

MV Orcadia

I-spy boats is made particularly tricky when they are repainted and renamed. But perhaps that is the attraction and the fascination of the game?

This was previously MV Saturn. A ro- ro passenger and vehicle ferry, it was owned by Caledonian MacBrayne. It was one of a new generation of car ferries built in the 1970s. They were nicknamed 'Streakers' , because of their speed and manoeuvrability.

From mid 2011 until 2015 it was laid up and it seems there was a campaign to save it from deteriorating beyond use.

Next Pentland Ferries bought it and it came to Orkney. With a coat of paint it became the Orcadia. Now perhaps again it has an uncertain future?

It's rather a sad sight and looks forlorn, tucked away out of view.
