MATCH DAY
Newcastle were playing a home game today against Manchester United. Kick off 4.30pm. It was a nasty rainy day so I got well wrapped up before settting off for town.
My blip shot shows The Strawberry - a pub near the football ground. The Strawberry is one of Newcastle's oldest and finest pubs. The building has been a pub since 1859. Apparently the pub’s name and the street name, Strawberry Place, derives from the nuns of nearby St Bartholomew’s who grew strawberries on plantations here and made strawberry wine. I have been inside once - but it wasn't on match day as its always packed on match days.

So to the footie. Newcastle actually played Ok. In fact they were good at times. Showed a lot more passion than last week for sure. And they WON. 1- 0. The goalscorer was Matty Longstaff. A 19 year old local lad playing his first Premiership match. What a debut. He must be on cloud nine this evening. I have added a photo to my blip shot of Matty ( on the left ) and his older brother Sean. Their Mam and Dad must be so proud to have both sons playing for Newcastle United.
