Caterpillar Snack

It's about time Lazarus, the caterpillar-not-a-pear-stalk, was thinking about making plans for the winter, and we have to make sure he is adequately fed before he pupates.
Our supply of leaves having become unappetisingly dry, we donned macs, put up umbrellas and nipped out for fresh birch leaves, his favourite food plant, collected in a multi-pack crisp bag.
At his rate of consumption this lot would last him until spring but by then he will be tucked up in metamorphic hibernation, somewhere in Miss Flum's garden.
