Night of the Jacks
King Gillette Ranch (originally owned by the person who started Gillette razors and blades) in Calabasas, California, opens every October to Night of the Jacks. It is a half mile walk all decorated with carved pumpkins. Yes, believe it or not, each figure is made up totally of carved pumpkins - but you have to look closely. I put a few photos in extras as well. The creativity is astounding and it is a very entertaining easy hike. Food trucks were doing land office business, and they stationed about a dozen of them selling every kind of ethnic food. A fun evening with thousands of our closest friends joining in!
This adventure is a major challenge for any camera - very dark and everything lit by LED lights. Getting the white balance and the colors correctly rendered is next to impossible, but I gave it a try with my Panasonic S1 at high ISOs. Passable.
