First Frost

An apparent "Law of Nature" here in the Catskill Mountains is after three autumn frosts, Indian Summer days arrive, then we hunker down to the long, snowy winter.
I had taken inside all my potted plants when the first frost warning was predicted. And that night it got down to 27ºF (-2.7ºC). I awoke expecting to see the blooms withered in the planter sitting exposed on the deck rail. But here they are, still alive.
The 1st frost is down for the season.
