Platform 5 for Newcastle

Hi ho, hi ho it's off to work I go...
After a couple of weeks off it's back to the old salt mines, shoulder to the wheel etc. I'm making it sound like my job's a chore...it really isn't. I truly believe I have the best job in the world, although sometimes the travelling isn't so glamorous.
My view down platform 5 on York station, while waiting for my second train of the evening en route to Newcastle. 1 night at The Royal Station Hotel then delivering a 'Stress, managing life's challenges' session for United Response on behalf of The Learning Architect tomorrow.

Why are journeys from West to East by road or rail more tedious, time consuming and disjointed than South to North?
