Wandering in the Woods

Or even more alliteratively, a Weekend Wander in Wytham Woods.

Wytham Woods has always been a bit of a mystery to me.  It belongs to the University of Oxford, uses the strapline "The Laboratory with Leaves", and claims to be the most studied bit of woodland in the world.  However, it's never been entirely clear to me how welcome visitors are.

Turns out they are very welcome - with the proviso that you need a permit to go wandering.  Today I was able to get a guided tour of the woods from the Conservator (who oversees the entire estate) - thanks to the Friends of the Oxford Botanics for organising that.  And I've requested a permit so I can go back again.
