The accidental finding

Slad valley, from Stroud

I went down town today, to dish out some WEA leaflets and run a few more errands. Dropped into a place called Guideposts to ask about volunteering to help with arts and crafts. They seemed very happy with this idea, and I will return tomorrow to meet the Boss.

Ended up getting chips to eat in town because they smelled so good. Then I saw the Big Issue seller fumbling with his pile of papers. His own poly box of chips fell, spilled on the ground and the seagulls came rushing. I went to the cash machine to get some money, then back to the chippie for more chips (in a better box) for the Big Issue guy.

Up the long, steep hill to the Leazes, overlooking the Slad Valley, to drop off the key to the house where I used to childmind. Spoke to the children's father. Perhaps I'll see them again: I said I was trying to make a go of life in the gig economy (apart from Monday, Tuesday and Saturday, when there's always work). Dad looked tired. The older children have taken their Common Entrance. Who knows....?

Snapped this pic on the way home. Laurie Lee's beloved Slad Valley, but not as he would have known it.
