Last day in Krakow, and Wieliczka

Far too many photos taken today, so hard to choose.  A little under par first thing as we found a wonderful wine bar last night with carafes of very good wine for just £4!  It helped to alleviate the subdued feelings after the visit to Auschwitz.  As our tour to Wieliczka Salt Mines wasn’t until late afternoon we walked around the Jewish area again taking in the traditional buildings, synagogues, bookstores, and interesting restaurants.  Later we walked back to the main square and treated ourselves to coffee and cake after visiting the stunning cathedral.  Back to the hotel for a quick freshen up, then off to the salt mines.  870 steps downwards helped to loosen us up, and it was a fascinating tour (but why is there always one very loud tourist who hasn’t listened to a word of the commentary, and then asks a string of questions which have already been answered?!).  The last part of the tour was coming very quickly to the surface in a miners’ 4 tier lift - very tight fit for 9 people in each cage!  Short ride back to Krakow and quick change for dinner. Everywhere very busy, but managed to get a table in a lovely Jewish restaurant and had a wonderful meal (I had beef and venison goulash - fantastic). I was entertained by a young Polish girl on the next table.  Dad was a doctor and lectures to medical students. Mum and daughter are off to England next week to visit relatives - in Doncaster!  A good end to a great break in this lovely city!
