East Voe, Shetland Day 5
Yet another Thelma and Louise day - no cliffs but a high windy road to Uradale Organic Farm to see beautiful wool, knitting patterns and lovey knitted goods. The two resident knitters were from the Netherlands and have a base there, the address of which I will give to blipper Brigit when I see her in a fortnight.
After the obligatory scone and reviving coffee we paid a visit to Scalloway museum, a nod to the infamous Patrick Stewart who had the palace built and a visit to the commemorative cairn to the memory of the sailors operating the Shetland Bus during WW2, we chanced upon Miss Gable in the car park where she was in a group of birders chasing a wee brown bird whose name I never learned.
There was a visit to the textile museum in Lerwick where we saw a piece of the famous lace fence knitted with fishing net twine on specially adapted curtain rods, and then some mingling with the knitters at the museum hub, before we dined in some style at Fjarå overlooking the sea.
With no drinking in the restaurant for either of us, (I in solidarity with Poppy the driver), we are now sitting up in our beds blipping and knitting while consuming cans of Edinburgh rhubarb and ginger gin. Mother’s ruin under cover of respectability.
Another super day.
