Cademuir, Monday Bike Ride

Nice for my last week off this summer, and the weather is the opposite to my last one. I head out on the bike down to the Borders for a longer bike ride.  I take the clockwise route on my normal Borders bike ride of Auchendinny, passing Gladhouse to Eddleston. The road to Lyne takes me through the Meldon Hills just as I did yesterday. It is still quite dull though.

From Lyne he heads east along the A72 to Kirkton Manor turn off, where I head south. This is a quiet back road cycling around Cademuir Hill. At the south side of the hill, I stop and take photo of Cademuir and a view down the Manor Water valley.. I then carry on to Peebles, then on to the B7062 through Cardrona to Traquair. Time to head home.

I turn north on to the B709 head through Innerleithen. I do ponder having lunch here, but the cafés seem full, and carry on north. This is the long climb up to the Piper's Grave. The sun has come out, and there's blue sky. Once over the first hill there's a descent down to the B7007, the B709 goes to Heriot, I cycle on to the Granites (The Mound). It's a bit breezy on the climb, but it doesn't last as long. Soon I am over the top and back in Midlothian. I stop where the road turns right to get Extra showing the view across Lothian, the Pentlands on the left, and Arthur's Seat in the middle.

A nice descent follows, although the side wind is a bit disconcerting as there is a steep slope to my left. At the bottom I turn left to Middleton, where I turn left and head to Gladhouse Reservoir, back over Mount Lothian, then the descent to Auchendinny, and then back home via Seafield Moor Road.

The whole ride can be seen at Relive here.

In the afternoon, I walk down to Bruntsfield for afternoon coffee and cake.
