The Crutch of the Matter
Many thanks for all the expressions of concern for W on yesterday's Blip; she really appreciated them. We finally got away from the hospital just before 11pm having been there since around 2pm; my only criticism is the lack of resources in the NHS which makes the waiting times inevitable but without exception the people we saw were superb and caring. One nurse went off to find W a sandwich so that she could take some medication (and I rather suspect it might have been her own supper) whilst another one lent W her own jacket when she spotted she was cold.
The good news is that there is no fracture. However, the bad news is that she must have torn a tendon or ligament which has then caused internal bleeding and swelling. Her knee is greatly swollen, she has her leg in a splint and still has a lot of pain. She will be assessed by the Fracture Clinic tomorrow and hopefully we will then have some idea of how long it will take to heal, but in the meantime she is going nowhere fast. Literally.
We were supposed to be going to Lake Como in Italy next week for a holiday which inevitably would involve quite a lot of walking. I think I'd better dig out my travel insurance policy.
