Farewell at the Station.
In Newbury there is a school which each year, has an "Evacuation Day". On this day, the class in question and their teachers are in period dress, with their gas mask boxes around their neck, they attend a short service at Newbury Baptist church, which my brother takes, again, in period costume - se extra! They then go to the station, sing on the platform before boarding a train to a nearby town where they are met and taken through the evacuation procedures. This seems a fantastic way to bring history to life. As I stated on the platform and they sung "Wish me luck as you wave me goodbye" it was a very poignant moment.
