After the calm of Swansea Bay...

almost devoid of sea, the south east corner of England - just East of Brighton marina under the chalk cliffs - presented a very different aspect. Earlier in the morning, heading east the tide was just low enough, but returning west at the top of the tide meant dodging - or very often, not dodging - walls of spray and the slowly-draining pools they left behind.
