Garbadale

After buying a paperback copy of this Iain Banks book for my Mam's Christmas present, I dug out my hardback copy and am determined to finish it this time. A couple of years ago I went through a few Banks books in quick succession but ran out of steam with this one.

I'm re-discovering quite a few graphic descriptions of sexual encounters, which make me want to pre-warn my Mam. Or maybe she's already read it.

Who knows.

I love Banks' detailed descriptive style (not just the sex) and how he references lots of interesting Scottish locations - modern day too, not nostalgic romantic pish.

This one bases part of the tale around the fictional Garbadale Castle/House, which I *think* is a nod to Carbisdale Castle in Sutherland. An awesome place I discovered on a cycling trip up north in 2007, which was once a wartime hospital but is now a SYHA hostel.
