Carisbrooke Priory

The storm continued all night long - my Campervan was shaking back and forth in the wind! It was a rainy morning but still enjoyable at the campsite, socialising with the others in our group.

Finally the sun came out and I decided to go for a walk. I had intended to just walk around Carisbrooke Castle (bottom right) and then come back, but when I made it to the top of the lane I noticed a sign for Carisbrooke Priory and that the gardens and a tea shop were open today, so I decided to pay a visit. Sounded like a perfect outing to me!

The Priory was once the home of Dominican Nuns, but is now an ecumenical and non-denominational centre for prayer and healing. I had a good look round both the gardens and inside, and had three very pleasant conversations. And of course I had some tea and cake! I also brought away some home made jam to take home with me.

The dahlias are one of several kinds I saw in the gardens. I picked this one for the collage because of the bee in the centre. The horses were along the lane between the campsite and the Priory. They must have been glad about the break in the storm!

Once back at the campsite, there was just enough sunshine to sit outside with another cup of tea and the sun on my face. It felt like bliss! This evening the group had another social dinner, this time with mezes delivered by a local Turkish restaurant. We just about managed this evening’s meal with no rain!! That didn’t start until about 9pm. But once it came it was heavy again! It’s been quite a week for camping!
