Oia
Oia is the picture postcard of Santorini. The narrow streets sitting high on the cliff top peering down onto the rich blues of the church roofs and the stark white buildings. The city is congested with tourists squeezing themselves into the most inappropriate places to get the right image. I felt for the people who live and work here.
This girl, in the midst of a busy church square was eye catching, the red outfit popping out. Clearly a pre-wedding photo shoot, she arranged and re-arranged her gown. Tourists asked for photos with her and she enjoyed her 15 minutes of fame.
All through this trip we were side by side with young girls pouting, re-arranging cleavage, checking and re checking the image before posting on some social media site. Full make up, latest high fashion, plastic and botox . I was alarmed at how important this all seemed. They had no sense of or enjoyed the attention this drew. Wrong, it's just wrong. Stop, look around, soak up the culture the views enjoy the experience. I don't think they saw any of the city.
Oh to be old and opinionated - it feels good.
