Cormorant above the river
I was out with our local walking group today on a walk around Colyton with an optional historic tour afterwards. The day started in good weather blue skies and the occasional whispy clouds. We headed out alongside the River Coly spotting a heron fishing on the other side of the river. The river levels were fairly high given all the recent rain we have been having but the fields weren't too muddy despite cows grazing in the fields we crossed. At one point I looked and spotted these Cormorants in the tree above the river.
We continued walking alongside the river for a fair distance before heading inland onto a quiet lane. A coffee break was taken opposite an old medieval long house that appeared fairly derelict and probably formed part of the adjacent farm. You could see a point below the old chimney that a thatched roof would have come upto.
We next climbed up a hilly area and through some woodland before winding our way back to Colyton along the network of various green lanes in the area. We almost stayed dry but just as we approached the bridge into the town a heavy downpour reminded us of the wet weather that was forecast.
I didn't stay for the guided tour as I had done this before and our colleague was having trouble with her knee but Colyton certainly is a fascinating town to visit with an interesting history and we decided to do the tour another time.
