Red seaweed

I spotted this seaweed when driving along the coastal road today...there were large patches of it washed up on the beach. I googled it to find out more about it and the explanation is too lengthy and scientific to write up here!
The red colour is due to larger amounts of phycoblin pigments overriding the green pigment chlorophyll.
I couldn't identify the seaweed - there are different varieties, some of which are edible..I think I must ask around for more info in layman's language...I just think it's very pretty!
It was a grey misty day today, maybe that's why this red colour was so prominent!
