A Somerset scene
This is part of the flood plain of the River Parrett with the southern edge of Langport in the background.
The Parrett was just known locally until six years ago when Somerset suffered its most severe flooding for some decades. Its name then became known nationally amid controversy that the failure of the Environmental Agency to dredge the river had contributed to the flooding.
This part of Somerset has a long history of flooding as a normal event and many of the small settlements are built on plugs of land which lift them just a few feet above the plain.
I was attracted by the afternoon light.
