The Old and the New

Backblip
B, H and I spent the day in Norwich, enjoying some of the buildings open for the 'Heritage Open Day' event.  I took over 200 photos, so it's taken me a while to delete process many of them. Our first building was Boardman House, originally designed by Edward Boardman as a Sunday School next door to the United Reformed Church which he also designed (this is the church with the colourful interior in extras).  The architect from Hudsons who renovated Boardman house in 2015 showed us round.  The space has been flooded with light due to the skylight being renovated and the open plan design, A new modern staircase (incorporating some of the original balustrade design) links the two floors but could be removed if future occupants wished, without disturbing the original features.  This building now houses the Norwich School of Arts Architecture faculty.  It was very impressive.
We popped into the United Reformed Church next, and loved this balconied Victorian interior with a very imaginative use of colour which highlighted the architectural features beautifully.
After a tasty sandwich lunch in the grounds of Norwich Cathedral, we popped inside late afternoon when the light was particularly attractive and the interior quiet, for a few more photos, also in extras.  The last one of which is a reflection of the cathedral interior in the copper font (in case you wondered why the image looks rather wobbly)!
