The Ivy bees are back
I was pleased to see the beautiful Ivy bees Colletes hederae are thriving on the usual Ivy bush near Shoreham.
First recorded in the UK in 2001, the Ivy bee as the name suggests forages almost exclusively on ivy flowers. It is on the wing from September to early November and is the final solitary bee species of the year.
