Inverewe Still

It was blowing an absolute hooley when we woke up and continued for the rest of the day.  A visit to Inverewe gardens was our aim for the day.  The Met Office said the morning was going to be the best part of the day so we were off early. In Ullapool we nearly stopped for fuel but all the pumps were in use so we decided to call at the next filling station.  Bad move!  The red light had come on before we reached the next station and we were getting desperate.  The station had a sign telling us the nearest other stations were 41 miles in one direction and 55 in the other. 

 We arrived at the gardens pleased it was dry if very windy.  Sadly the gardens were closed on safety grounds owing to the risk of the wind bringing things down on peoples heads.  We were told they would check again and it might open at 1:00.  So into the café for coffee, then we chatted and filled in time until lunch.  A nice meal.  

By 1:00 it was clear the wind was worse and it was raining so we gave up. Back to the site through heavy rain and the inevitable high winds.  Arriving at the site we found a power cut.  Fortunately we are self sufficient and carried on as normal until the power came back just before dark.

The blip is of a display in the corner of the café labelled "The Inverewe Still".  Sadly there was no information provided.  Googling has thrown no light on things either.  I am assuming that as Loch Ewe distillery has the smallest commercial still in the UK it is a copy of this still.  Loch Ewe distillery is so small it is run from a converted garage.
