Dounreay.
Today's aim was along the north of the country to a CL at a tiny village called Laid. It must be conventional to do the NC 500 clockwise as most of the traffic was coming towards us. Our first longish stop was for a cuppa in a convenient lay-by over looking Dounreay Powerstation. Of particular interest to Kanyl as he did at one time work in the UKAEA. Also of interest was seeing a sign which read "Police firing range", bringing home to us that long before police on the streets carried guns a private police force did.
Dounreay was once a castle now a ruin, the name means Fort on a mound. Dounreay will go down in history as the site of the prototype fast breeder reactor and the submarine reactor testing .
The we made our way to our next site at Laid, stopping often for views of mountains and beaches. It was still very windy and had occasional heavy showers.
