Bit anxious
This, should you need it for future reference, is my 'a bit anxious' face. I took it out for a spin to the dentist's this morning but also made a point of telling him that was how I was feeling, just in case he was not up to speed on my facial expressions.
Neil, the dentist, was having none of it, though, and told me there was nothing to worry about and that people loved the sedative. But if there's one thing I've learnt since June 2016 it's that there are a lot more idiots about than I had previously suspected.
Anyway, I was made to feel as comfortable as I think was possible by Neil and his assistants as I lay on the operating couch/bed and they began fussing with my arm, which was to provide both an exit for some blood to be used in the operation and an entrance for the sedative, which was administered, as far as I can remember, without fanfare.
It was, chums, an odd and, indeed, not unpleasant experience. As Neil had suggested it would be, it was rather 'dreamy'. In fact, it was like a really good nap, when you are to all intents and purposes asleep but also aware of what is going on around you, while your mind plays oddly linked and surreal scenes for your entertainment.
Perhaps the oddest aspect was that at a couple of points, I was aware that I had a mouthful of stuff but I can't emphasise enough how completely undistressing this way; I felt completely serene.
I awoke to the sound of the nurse telling me that the lights were going to seem very bright, which they did, and the sound of the Minx chatting to either Neil or the other nurse, who was saying how little sedative I'd required, which, frankly, didn't sound very rock 'n' roll. (I was hoping for something a bit more: "He was like an animal! We had to give him five times the usual dose!".)
I then spent a while lying on the bed feeling happy and relaxed before the Minx led me out to the car and took me back home. Oddly, in my head, I felt quite normal, but I would occasionally find I was talking to myself as we drove along.
I spent the rest of the day sleeping on the sofa, which was very enjoyable, until the Minx had to leave and Milly took over the task of keeping an eye on me. By this stage, I think I was all right, really, although still in no fit state to operate heavy machinery, which, happily, was not a requirement, this evening.
