First day of light rail
The first day of the the new light rail train system in Ottawa. Much vaunted, much delayed, much needed.
Only: instead of having the system complement the existing bus system, they have cut buses to make people get the LRT. Fain enough, if the LRT is like the Tube in London, and there are stops every 10 metres or so. Unsurprisingly, there aren't.
However, it ran well, and smoothly, and while it is a good 60 degrees warmer than it will be in February, it was a good start. Winter will be the test though. What'll happen if the system packs up (which it did during testing) and there are no buses...
Answers on a postcard to: Jim Watson, outgoing mayor, City Hall, Ottawa.
