They 'trotted' along from 1872 until 1902 when electrification took over. The vehicles became roofed with enclosed cabs much to the relief of drivers and passengers. Glasgows system lasted until 1962 . It was one of the longest systems in Europe and its ironic that such transport systems are now so in demand that people call for reintroduction here. At least we have superb city wide electric railways
