The Punchbowl
Today several of us had arranged to go for a run in the Cairngorms. Mr Rat had planned a route up Ben Macdui, I'd planned a lower level and shorter one..
The forecast deteriorated to being not good for going high (very windy with low cloud and some rain) so that was was abandoned and an elongated reverse version of my route substituted. 3 did the longer one, 1 did a shorter version of it and 2 did my route.
We didn't have much rain and it wasn't too cold but the wind was very strong in our faces on one section (the other group had it behind them there) but it was exhilarating.
About half way we took a detour to the Punchbowl near Linn of Quoich and other section were through old pine forest, along the Dee and through a narrow pass from Glen Quoich to Glen Dee, lovely and varied.
We did exactly 20k and about 350m of ascent, the others did 27k and about 430m.
