Margaret Atwood Day!
I sped back home after work to get to The Portobello Bookshop before closing. I had pre-ordered ‘The Testaments’, the follow on novel from ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by the remarkable Margaret Atwood. Not only did I get a free book bag, but I got a signed copy, too! I felt like a very lucky Canuck. Thank you Portobello Bookshop!
Later I went to The Cameo to see a simulcast interview by Samira Ahmed with the great woman with readings from the book. Ms Ahmed quoted from The Handmaid’s Tale and commented that it felt like something similar to the proroguing of Westminster - “That was when they suspended the Constitution. They said it would be temporary. There wasn't even any rioting in the streets. People stayed home at night, watching television, looking for some direction. There wasn't even an enemy you could put your finger on.”
