Daytona anyone?

As you know, my repertoire of blip subjects is basically pretty limited. Let's face it ... you've had the slow water pic, the wire pic, the rusty pic, the suburban grunge pic, the driving-along-the-highway pic, the seagull pic, the grog pic and the water pattern pic. Come on ... you HAVE to know what's coming next. You guessed it. Ta ta tata taaaaaa. THE WATCH PIC.

I warn you. There will be a few of these to come so you can catch up with recent arrivals to the collection. Now THIS one is a (ahem) "close homage" to a Rolex Daytona chronograph made by a Chinese brand called "Parnis". It is nearly identical to the original design with some very obvious differences for those who know the famous prototype well. Interestingly it has a sapphire crystal, a high polished stainless steel case and a glossy ceramic bezel, such that the materials, from which the watch is made, actually sort of match the Rolex. Alas, under the bonnet is no handmade COSC certified mechanical movement however. Instead they have fitted one of those nice Seiko mecha-quartz mechanisms which is theoretically more accurate and reliable anyway.

Needless to say I am far too poor to afford the $15,000 for the REAL aforementioned Swiss icon and even if I DID have the necessary readies, I'd be placed on a five year waiting list before I could actually get my grubby paws on one .... so what is a fella to do?

Anyway, it's a bit of fun. The idea is to wear it on a bare wrist with a white T shirt, dark sunglasses, five days worth of designer stubble and a slightly spoiled, faintly hung over, distinctly supercilious facial expression. Then sit at a "sidewalk café" table, sip a short black and wait for the inevitable fast blonde in a red Ferrari to roll up. Ayyyyyy!
