Deep Veins

I had to ponder for quite some time on the title for today's post. I wasn't sure to begin with why I found it interesting.

Subtle marks and colours ranging from light pinks to pale greens held me captive to these hydrangea petals on the turn from the wonderful shades of white in their original state.

Just as with beautiful scenery, I could point my camera anywhere and produce an appealing image. The challenge then was what to make of them. I discerned two types of shot, those with many petals such as this one and much more simple frames containing only a few (extra).

I became much more aware of negative space, the shapes and tones and colours. It's a fine line between complimentary use of negative space and boring or worse distracting.

Ultimately, I decided the subtle texture of the petal's surface along with the veins and marks were what appealed to me most. These features,  emphasised by the shallow depth of field, places them in contrast to the soft shapes behind.

Could this be my desert island subject?
