High On A Hill
I ate goat in Burgos. I only knew it was goat because the waiter made that well known universal sign for goat by stroking his chin between his thumb and forefinger. It was an interesting little collection of tapas that evening I must say! Today a visit to the Refugio de Juanar in Ojen was on the cards where I fancied anchovies in vinegar for lunch but which, sadly, were off the menu. I plumped for "baby pig" instead (deep fried, rather salty belly pork). I'm not a great meat eater but do believe in sampling your host country's standard fare so apologies to all vegetarians out there.
The Refugio was amazing with the most spectacular views over Marbella. Well worth a visit. I also adored Mijas and would love to return there to explore further.
Ps The goat isn't real. It's a wonderful statue at the end of the walk at the Refugio.
PPs In two days, I've seen three bulldogs. This bemused me as I had always thought they were typically English dogs but, thinking about it, Spain is famous for its bulls and bulldogs were used to bait them I expect. All makes perfect sense now!
PPs A friend has recommended I try arroz negro (which is apparently paella cooked in squid ink) with a crisp glass of fino sherry and which he assures me is delicious! The hunt is on Laurence!
