Cow killer
Although commonly referred to as the red velvet ant (and in some cases cow killer ant), this name is misleading because velvet ants are actually wasps. They get the "velvet" part of their name from the very fuzzy females, which are wingless and often brightly colored.
I've seen these female wasps before but always enjoy checking them out up close and personal.
The tide peeked at 11:00 pm last night. It was about 4'' up on our foundation. I have a hard time with the salt water and marsh smell. God knows it is nothing compared to what the people of the Bahamas are faced with. They are a strong people as they have survived many storms in the past. They will need help for years to come.
