Lincoln in the Light
While in upstate NY, we took the opportunity to visit the home of William Seward, who was a Governor of New York, a U.S. Senator for New York and Secretary of State under President Abraham Lincoln, one of his "team of rivals." On the night of Lincoln's assassination, there was an attempt on the life of Seward as well, which failed. The docent who gave us the tour was so knowledgeable and fascinated us with stories of Seward's life and about the many unusual things in his home. In the library was this bust of Lincoln, which I thought looked so nice in the window light, up against the many volumes of "The War of the Rebellion: a Compilation of the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies."
We drove to NYC and managed to get there in time for our 7:00 show. We saw the broadway show "Come from Away." It was absolutely delightful and has become one of my favorite shows ever! If you ever get the chance to see it: DO IT! The show is about the 38 planes and thousands of passengers who were grounded for 4 days in Gander, Newfoundland after the U.S. airspace was closed on 9/11/2001. An incredible testament to the very best attributes of human beings, especially those wonderful Canadians. Don't miss it.
