Shardloes
Just outside Amersham, on the way home, is Shardloes, a 17th century country house owned by the Tyrwitt-Drake family until the second world war, when it became a maternity hospital for evacuated pregnant women from London. Over three thousand babies were born.
After the war it became derelict and was due to be demolished until a local conservation body gained a preservation order and now it is a number of very grand apartments, with the principal reception rooms preserved as common rooms for the residents.
It looks good from the road and I can imagine that the views from the apartments are pretty fine too, looking at the extra blips - the second blip shows a bit of the lodge.
