Life through my eyes

This morning we set off for Burry Port for lunch, a gentle ride along the Millennium Coastal Path. Mr T was doing very well until we stopped for a rest and then when we set off he missed the pedal and then in slow motion (it seemed) lost his balance and down he went. Blood again pouring from his nose, and again the Apple Watch called 999. Some people stopped and two lovely blokes helped get him up and with the location. However as we didn’t have a road name it was difficult for the
ambulance service to get a location.

As you can see from the front of Mr T’s helmet it certainly saved him from a serious injury today, and that was at 0 mph!

After waiting an hour I phoned again and they tried to find me from my phone and then told me to use a website called www.what3words.com. That was able to locate us and that was then relayed to the paramedics. They decided to approach from Burry Port but couldn’t get access due to bollards! The police were called but didn’t have the right keys and there was no answer from the coastal path management. So we were told they were coming on foot (about a mile). But then the blokes came back and had seen the ambulance but then someone else who had also stopped earlier said they would look out for them, then some other people said they were going the opposite way and the ambulance had gone.

They had tried to get access through Pwll, but still had to go on foot, through the grass with the wheelchair and equipment! After waiting for 2 1/2 hours it was good to see them!

One wheeled Mr T back and the other rode his bike back to the ambulance, much to his colleagues amusement as the bike matched his uniform, so a picture was taken and duly shared at A&E!

They spent about an hour in the ambulance treating the wounds and then took me to get the car and then I followed them to Carmarthen A&E.

A long wait there and we were both hungry and thirsty as we hadn’t had anything since breakfast.

Eventually Mr T was patched up and has to go back on Monday for his dressings to be checked, and then somehow we need to get our GP surgery to access the NHS Wales records so they can do an ENT referral if needed!

I would encourage anyone to download the what3words app! That plus a smart phone were invaluable today.

I will catch up on your journals tomorrow.
