Handarbeit

Morven took a photo of my needle case and I said "you are very good at taking these....."
"Sentimental pictures?" Morven said
Yes! Sentimental pictures! As in: Showing tender feelings of pity, love, sadness, etc. or creating imaginative remembrance of such feeling in the past (Longman dictionary of Contemporary English)
When I look at this photo I feel I look at myself. I did the cross stitch in Klasse 1b when i was 6 years old. I never finished the piece but kept it and took it with me when I moved to Britain aged 29. Later I made a desicion to do more Handarbeit and used my cross stitch to make a needlecase.

When I arrived at Swantje's for an afternoon of making do and mending and wine drinking and blethering the needle case and surrounding story she produced stopped me in my tracks. So in her words I asked her to write, as she is astonishing with words. As a friend she has a wonderful capacity to listen and pick out the essence of what I had no idea I was saying and as a colleague (we used to share the puppetry workshop) she has endlessly inspired me. thanks. A sentimental tale indeed.
