Petite France, the historic tanners' quarter of Strasbourg.
It didn't get its name, which means "Little France", for patriotic reasons - quite on the contrary. In the fifteenth century, when Strasbourg was a German-speaking free imperial city, this district was the location of a hospice for people suffering from syphilis, a disease that used to be called "Franzosenkrankheit" (French disease) in German.
