Havendagen - Jeroen van der Boom

This weekend all kind of festivities are taking place here in Delfzijl. It's the so called 'Havendagen' (Harbour Days) and in the town centre and harbour it's very busy.
In the afternoon I went with Peter to the harbour and we visited a huge cargo ship, the Eems Dublin.
When we were high up on the ship, on the bridge we saw in the distance the sailship Loodkotter Eems No 1 and I knew you could go on it for a short tour. An instant plan was made, we had to get off the Eems Dublin asap and get on board of this Loodskotter.

When we entered the floating pier where it would dock, it was crowded with people. They were all waiting to get on board, but we acted as if we had to be there and got on board first. That was great fun, and nobody seemed to notice what we were up to.

In the evening we all (that is the four of us and Joke and Peter of course) went to the Molenberg plein (town square) for a free concert of a famous Dutch artist, Jeroen van der Boom.

Around 22.00 hours we walked via a parking on to the square when suddenly a big black Range Rover passed by with Jeroen himself in it.
Jeroen was in da house!

I knew rain was predicted (finally rain!!! but not now please!!!) so we all had an umbrella with us. When Jeroen was in his second song it starting raining and raining. The raindrops soon turned into a down poor I hadn't seen for quite a while.
We, and the complete audience were soaked within seconds. But the spirit in the audience only became better and better because of it. Then suddenly, all went black and there was no sound anymore. A power failure. Oops!

Jeroen tried to get the audience going by singing acoustic, but it stayed dark and and silent on stage, and the down poor kept going, so he went off stage.
The audience and we too stayed, we couldn't get any wetter anymore so why leave now. After approx 15-20 minutes Jeroen came back on and tried his acoustic thing again with the audience. Very special, great atmosphere.

Then a few lights came on again, and then a few more and then his microphone was back as well.
Het told us he would remember this performance for a long time because we'd all stayed and waited for him. He appreciated it very much. Then the concert was picked up again where it had stopped.
All and all we had a special evening!
