A Scottish Icon

Travelling home now through the beautiful Northumbrian countryside. It does have a September feel about it - the light seems more mellow, with the sun shining on the hay bales from the late Summer cut. One or two rainbows as well.
I had a leisurely start after a packed day yesterday and went to the Scottish Portrait Gallery - a beautiful building with some brilliant exhibits including this iconic self-portrait of John Byrne. On a previous visit to Edinburgh I saw him on a bus quite near the gallery. There was no mistaking him, although he was dressed a lot less flamboyantly and was quite a bit older.
