Hard Lesson

Never walk up stairs with your hands in your pockets... that is the hard lesson my 6 year old daughter, Amelia learned today.

The kids were so excited this morning as we were on our way to a birthday party for Dr. Seuss at our home school co-op. To enter the building you go up a several concrete steps. My daughter had her hands tucked in her coat pockets to keep warm, then she tripped on a step and fell face first on the concrete. She couldn't get her hands out quick enough to catch her, so she landed right on her face. Poor girl! She was crying and bleeding. My 2 year old even started crying because she didn't want to see her sister hurt. Luckily my friend was there to take care of my 2 and 4 yr olds while I took Amelia to the bathroom to get cleaned up.

In spite of that, the kids had fun at Dr. Seuss' birthday party. They even got to eat some green eggs and ham! My poor Amelia, though, was quite embarassed of her fat lips and scraped up face. I tried to encourage her that she is still beautiful no matter what and that sometimes lessons in life are hard to learn and can hurt quite a bit, but time heals wounds and lessons makes us wiser.

I guess I better get that girl some gloves! :)

Goodnight all!
