Wrong sex...

Our Italian made John Lewis cooker uses a half inch British Standard Pipe female gas inlet. In France they use the same half-inch British Standard Pipe connection on their ovens, BUT they have the male fit on the oven, so their pipes are female and as you can see this British pipe is male.

After multiple emails to the manufacturer in Smeg in Italy, France and the UK, and various gas fitters who all said it was either impossible to convert or offered exactly the opposite to what we wanted, we eventually found a male-male 1/2" BSP nipple and now the cooker is male instead of female, so fits the French system without a problem.
