Zoo lights
Monday
It was a rather gloomy, dismal day in Houston today - as we drove through downtown fairly early in the morning to take Philip to the airport, you couldn't even see the tops of the skyscrapers! After a latish breakfast, Jen, Roger and I went walking at Houston Arboretum and Nature Center, which is located fairly close to where Jen and Jason live. We didn't meet very many people on this drizzly morning. We decided to have a quiet afternoon in, playing Big Boggle, then had a relatively early dinner before going out to the Zoo Lights. Jen warned us not to expect anything in the same class as Cincinnati Zoo lights, and she was right, but it was still fun, and we decided the temperature was preferable to Cincinnati! We timed it perfectly, as while we were heading toward the exit to come home, there was a distant rumble of thunder and an announcement over the loudspeakers, warning of an approaching thunderstorm. We just got back inside Jen and Jason's apartment and the heavens opened - it came down in torrents for quite a while. We watched a movie, then toasted in the New Year - by Eastern Standard Time - Jen was working the next day, and has to be at work for 7am, so she didn't want to stay up any later!
