Camera-Shy

Self-Portrait

Flick and I were discussing camera equipment over the weekend. She has a very nice Lumix point and shoot thingy, whereas I have the Canon 400.
Both she and I like to experiment (in the photographic sense), and she feels that the Canon (with our nice additional macro lens) gives one more manual control over all aspects of the shot, and is therefore ideal for experimentation.

On the other hand, I have problems with the Canon when it comes to "sneaking" pictures. While Flick can stick her little camera lens inside bottles, up drainpipes in supermarkets, in the street, at football matches... I can't. It is a bit cumbersome, very obvious, and for some reason, I feel like a bit of a saddo out there in the street with all the gear, giving the impression that I'm pretending to be a so-called professional photographer, when all I am in fact doing is trying to get a decent blip for the day.

So we've come to a sort of compromise. Ultimately, we want a big one and a little one each, but for now, I'm going to get a little point and shoot (can't see why I shouldn't get a Lumix) and I shall then leave the Canon at home for Flick to learn how to use.

Later, I'll get another SLR (Canon again, or Nikon perhaps). However, for this to happen, one of the three kids currently at University has got to finally finish. Emily is currently due to be the first (July)..unless she does an MA.

So at 1:40 this morning (still buzzing from the drive to Manchester), I thought I would practise some pointing and shooting in advance of actually getting a little camera.
This is a bit fuzzy I'm afraid as it was done in very low light, and hand held (one hand) for eight seconds.

This was my "banker" shot for today, but I didn't take any more as I am recovering from the shock of discovering that a passport renewal fee is a minimum SIXTY-SIX quid.

Phew!
